Bereshit Genesis ch 3: Lilith  big mad and the Serpent beguiled Chava….. #storytime

Welcome back to

Marie Speaks G-d’s Grace Bible Study.

This is Season 7 of Marie Speaks G-d’s Grace. I hope everyone enjoyed the first blog of the Season Bereshit/ Genesis ch 1: In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth and second Blog Bereshit/ Genesis ch 2: When Adam met Eve. In which, we reviewed and discussed Merciful HaShem , the Blessed Holy One singing the world into creation, the formation of Adam and Eve and now… dun dun dun #waitforit.

We will discuss some of the Jewish legends behind the story of creation in chapter 3 #sofun, as well as review some more misinterpreted Christian texts regarding the Book of Isaiah. We will answer among other questions: Are Satan, Devil, and Lucifer all the same entity? Why are Jesus and Lucifer both called the morning star? and so much more.

This week we will continue on in discussing The Only Living G-d, creating a rock that a was and is so difficult to destroy and only HaShem, The Blessed Holy alone can lift… our

#freewill.

Part 1 Bereshit Genesis ch 3

Part 2 Bereshit Genesis ch 3

Part 3 Bereshit Genesis ch 3

What to expect this this Season 7 and Bible Study Lesson?

We will begin to review from the beginning of the First Book of Moses the Word of the Holy Blessed One, Bereshit/Genesis. Throughout each chapter, we will review, learn, examine, and study. This will lead us to examine this season, unveiling as we investigate cases of Stolen Valor. Along with this great task, we will continue to increase our intro Hebrew vocabulary, with an intro to Hebrew terminology, coupled with a version of The Tanakh (the actual Jewish Bible, that means no “new testament”) introduction, and will always be rooted in Torah Spiritual Teaching.

The books, sources, and resources or references I will do my best to make sure are hyperlinked for others to review and study at their own leisure and for gaining in self-learning/teaching. The books, sources, and resources or references that we share here at mariespeaksgodsgrace.live, are not commonly found or promoted by the internet, therefore we do our best to provide the Torah filled information for others not to be led towards secular or pagan or idolatry propaganda lifestyles.

The books I use to aide me in my research this Season 7 / Lesson are from my personal home library:

***I am not paid to endorse nor am affiliated***

The some of the sources we will be using are listed below for others to enjoy on their own time.

**** again****I am not paid to endorse nor affiliated with any source or reference. I enjoy sharing with others and allowing them the opportunity to meet the Only True Living G-d.

My goal is to help and assist others by studying Torah , researching Torah sages information and teachings, applying in life the lessons taught by our sages of Blessed memory and today, then learning and sharing/teaching what I have learned or experienced. This rounds out my personal experiences in any moment or season of life, thus forming a reality.

This reality is a living, yes living, energy frequency.

Physical And Spiritual

Able to raise higher and higher (G-d willing) and be adjusted as more experiences and new learning take place. These are my attempts at improving myself and hoping to leave the part of the world I have been placed, in better state than before (if needed) and the people I encounter (if possible). People and or places, I am so very blessed to encounter, G-d willing, will have a positive (frequency strong hold/ pillar of success for G-d’s Glory) experience of their own that will ultimately lead them to… you guessed it… G-d and His Holy Torah.

This Is Not Forced Or Coerced, Nor Manipulated.

With full acceptance of my own and others free will, (given to us by the Holy Creator), therefore at the end of the day one’s own education is determined by their efforts, intentions, and perseverance of truth.

Everyone has a responsibility to their own life, experiences, learning, and education (to name a few), in seeking and finding truth forming their reality.

TRUTH

I believe all truth comes from G-d and was given to us in His Holy Torah, and then lived out in the Tanakh. To be clear I believe all Truth comes from the G-d of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob and was given to us through His Prophet Moses to teach to the world and all those who love Him, know, Him and call Him by name and live by His Torah.

In order to understand, realize, and learn the truth, we should attempt, to the highest degree possible, to learn terminology, and then share this beauty with others who are open.

So What Is Terminology?

Terminology, as defined by Wikipedia, is:

Terminology is a group of specialized words and respective meanings in a particular field, and also the study of such terms and their use; the latter meaning is also known as terminology science.A term is a word, compound word, or multi-word expressions that in specific contexts is given specific meanings—these may deviate from the meanings the same words have in other contexts and in everyday language.

Terminology is a discipline that studies, among other things, the development of such terms and their interrelationships within a specialized domain.

Terminology is a discipline that systematically studies the “labelling or designating of concepts” particular to one or more subject fields or domains of human activity. It does this through the research and analysis of terms in context for the purpose of documenting and promoting consistent usage.

Let’s get into…..

Some reviewing…. There is a beautiful book or sefer I read from everyday, sometimes 3,4,5,6,7 times a day in fact. This book is called a siddur.

Siddur: A siddur (Hebrew: סִדּוּר sīddūr[siˈduʁ, ‘sɪdəʁ]; plural siddurim סִדּוּרִים [siduˈʁim]) is a Jewish prayer book containing a set order of daily prayers. The word siddur comes from the Hebrew root ס־ד־ר‎, meaning ‘order.’

Other terms for prayer books are tefillot (תְּפִלּוֹת‎) among Sephardi Jewstefillah among German Jews, and tiklāl (תכלאל) among Yemenite Jews.

In the days of Rabban Gamliel, the numbers of heretics among the Jews increased. They would oppress the Jews and entice them to turn away from God.Since he saw this as the greatest need of the people, he and his court established one blessing that contains a request to God to destroy the heretics. He inserted it into the Shemoneh Esreh so that it would be arranged in the mouths of all. Consequently, there are nineteen blessings in the Shemoneh Esreh.”

PRAYER FOR RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT Restore our judges as before and our counselors as at first. Remove from us sorrow and sighing, and reign over us quickly You, Adonoy, alone with kindness and compassion; and make us righteous with righteousness and justice, Blessed are You, Adonoy, King, Lover of righteousness and justice. (During the Ten Days of Penitence: Blessed are You, Adonoy, the King of Justice.)

PRAYER FOR DIVINE RETRIBUTION For informers let there be no hope and may all wickedness instantly perish may all Your enemies be swiftly cut off, and the insolent may You quickly uproot, crush, rout, disgrace and humbled and subdue speedily in our days. Blessed are You, Adonoy, Crusher of enemies and Subduer of the insolent.

PRAYER FOR THE RIGHTEOUS SCHOLARS Upon the righteous, upon the pious, upon the elders of Your people the House of Israel, upon the remnant of their scholars, upon the true proselytes, and upon us, may Your mercy be aroused, Adonoy our God. Grant bountiful reward to all who trust in Your Name in truth; and place our lot among them, and may we never be put to shame, for in You we have put our trust. Blessed are You, Adonoy, Support and Trust of the righteous.

So now we got questions:

At least this is the goal right?!? To be perfect? or to be righteous?

What is G-d asking from us?

Why do good things happen to or for wicked / bad people?

Why do good people suffer?

Why oh why?!?

Let’s get into…… Today’s Torah verses of study:

Blessing of the Torah:
Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to be engrossed in the words of Torah.
HaShem our God, please make the words of Your Torah pleasant in our mouths and in the mouths of Your people Israel. And may we and our descendants [and the descendants of our descendants] and the descendants of Your people the House of Israel, all know Your Name and be students of Your Torah for its own sake.
Blessed are You, HaShem Who teaches Torah to His people, Israel.
Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the Universe Who chose us from among all the peoples and gave us His Torah. Blessed are You, HaShem, Giver of the Torah!

Bereshit/ Genesis ch 3

The serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which (Adonoy Elohim- יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֑ים) made; and it said to (the woman- הָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה- ha-eeshah), Did Elohim even say that you should not eat from all the trees of (the Garden- הַגָּֽן ha-gan)?

Commentary:

This portion where I want us to focus:

 וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־הָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה אַ֚ף כִּֽי־אָמַ֣ר אֱלֹהִ֔ים לֹ֣א תֹֽאכְל֔וּ מִכֹּ֖ל עֵ֥ץ הַגָּֽן

vayomer el-ha’ishah af ki-amar Elohim lo tochelu mikol ets hagan?

and it said to (the woman- הָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה- ha-eeshah), Did Elohim even say that you should not eat from all the trees of (the Garden- הַגָּֽן ha-gan)?

Romantically poetically spoken:

1. the serpent deceived or beguiled or cast a spell upon the woman.

2. The serpent moves with cunning, meaning wise and authoritative;

3. entered into paganism casting spell with speech

4. used Forced- authority and or power.

5 and Coercion – inciting multiple times to create doubt and vulnerability.

6. and used Manipulation;

In Judaismyetzer hara (Hebrew: יֵצֶר הַרַע‎, romanizedyēṣer haraʿ) is a term for humankind’s congenital inclination to do evil. The term is drawn from the phrase “the inclination of the heart of man is evil” (Biblical Hebrew: יֵצֶר לֵב הָאָדָם רַע, romanized: yetzer lev-ha-adam ra), which occurs twice at the beginning of the Torah (Genesis 6:5 and Genesis 8:21).

While many here would blame the serpent or so called animal instinct for him Forcing, Coercing, and Manipulating, Eve/ Chava/ The Woman; I have a different opinion.

I believe at this time here in Bereshit, Adam- The Man was a physical man, Eve/ Chava wasn’t a physical woman, and yes… even the Serpent were closer to a spiritual being if not an actual spiritual being.

Corporeal describes something that has a physical form. It is the opposite of spiritual or emotional. Something that is corporeal exists in the real world. It’s sort of a fancy way of saying bodily or physical.

Meaning at this time, they were on a simpler plane, if not higher elevation than the Angels Hayyot or other Spiritual Beings. Therefore, this is not a simple case of “the animal instinct made me do it” or as the christians will say the devil tempted me or as the victimhood narcissistic personality would just blame everyone, or claim racism; No, this is a case of the first idolatry and free will transgression.

Therefore the Serpent, with his mis-used of:

the breath ( ruach(רוּחַ) not only spirt but deposition, נְשִׁימָה breathing, breath, respiration, wind נֶפֶשׁ soul, mind, psyche, person, spirit, breath) ………

that the Alimghty G-d’s Spirit (Ruach hakodesh (רוח הקודש Holy Spirit of Almighty G-d) with Fire -all koshered within him.

This was the first evil eye, first witchcraft, first everything evil…..use of the spirit of life even within a created being.

This was force, coerced, and manipulation.

All the things that the Lord Our G-d, hates.

“Proverbs ch 6

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast struck thy palms for a stranger,

if thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, caught with the sayings of thy mouth:

do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy neighbour; go, abase thyself, and importune thy neighbour.

Give no sleep to thy eyes, nor slumber to thy eyelids.

Deliver thyself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

which having no guide, overseer, or ruler;

provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

so shall thy poverty come like a marauder, and thy want like an armed man.

A base person, a wicked man, is one that walks with a crowed mouth,

that winks with his eyes, that taps with his feet, that points with his fingers;

perverseness is in his heart; he devises mischief continually; he sows discord.

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

There are six things which the Lord hates, and seven which are an abomination to him:

a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that devises wicked thoughts, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

a false witness that breathes out lies, and one that sows discord among brethren.

My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the Tora of thy mother:

bind them continually upon thy heart, and tie them about thy neck.

When thou walkest, it shall lead thee; when thou liest down, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

For the commandment is a lamp; and Tora is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

to keep thee from the evil woman, from the smoothness of the tongue of an alien.

Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; nor let her take thee with her eyelids.

For by means of a harlot a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

So he that goes in to his neighbour’s wife; whoever touches her shall not go unpunished.

Do not men despise a thief, even if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry?

And if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

He who commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he who does that destroys his soul.

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

For jealousy is the rage of a man: and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

He will not regard any ransom; nor will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts..”

Proverb ch 6, Koren Jerusalem Bible.

Bereshit/ Genesis ch 3 verse 2 : The woman said to the serpent, From the fruit of the trees of the Garden we may eat.

But of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the Garden, Elohim said, You shall not eat from it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.

The serpent said to the woman, You certainly will not die.

For Elohim (knows) that on the day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will become as gods, knowing what is good and what is evil.

The woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was tempting to the eyes, and that the tree was appealing as a means of [obtaining] wisdom. She took of its fruit and she ate, and she also gave it to her husband with her, and he ate.

verse 7: The eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked. They sewed together fig leaves, and made for themselves loincloths.

verse 8: They heard the voice of Adonoy Elohim moving in the Garden at the breeze of the day. The man and his wife hid themselves from [the Presence of] Adonoy Elohim among the trees of the Garden.

verse 9. Adonoy Elohim called to the man, and He said, Where are you?

He said, I heard Your voice in the Garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself.

And He said, Who told you that you were naked? From the tree whereof I commanded you not to eat of it, have you eaten?

Verse 12: The man -ha’adam  said- Vayomer, The woman- ha’ishah that You gave to be with me—she gave me of the tree and I ate.

Adonoy Elohim said to the woman, What is this that you have done? She said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate.

Verse 14: Adonoy Elohim said to the serpent, Because you did this, cursed are you from among all animals and beasts of the field. On your belly you shall crawl. And dust you shall eat all the days of your life.

I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He shall strike you on the head, and you shall strike him on the heel.

To the woman He said, I will greatly increase your sorrow and your pregnancy. You will give birth to children with pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will dominate you.

To the man He said, Because you listened to your wife, and ate from the tree which I commanded you, saying, Do not eat from it; the soil will be cursed because of you. In sorrow you shall eat from it all the days of your life.

It will grow thorns and thistles for you; and you will eat the herbs of the field.

By the sweat of your face you will eat bread, until you return to the ground for from it [the ground] were you taken. For you are dust and to dust you shall return.

A case of Stolen Valor:

Definition of Stolen Valor: Stolen valor is a term used to describe the act of falsely claiming to be a veteran or active duty member of the military, or to have received military honors or awards. The goal of these false claims is to deceive others into believing the individual is a decorated military hero in order to gain money, property, or other benefits.

Now that we know the definition of Stolen Valor, let’s read what Christianity transpired through verses 14-19.

Let’s ask and question some questions?

Why does Christianity believe the Serpent, Satan, and Lucifer are all the same entity?

In Judaism who is Satan: ….in the prologue to the Book of Job, where Satan appears, together with other celestial beings or “sons of God,” before the Deity, replying to the inquiry of God as to whence he had come, with the words: “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it” (Job i. 7). Both question and answer, as well as the dialogue which follows, characterize Satan as that member of the divine council who watches over human activity, but with the evil purpose of searching out men’s sins and appearing as their accuser. He is, therefore, the celestial prosecutor, who sees only iniquity; for he persists in his evil opinion of Job even after the man of Uz has passed successfully through his first trial by surrendering to the will of God, whereupon Satan demands another test through physical suffering.

Is there a devil in Judaism? Simply, No.

There are however demons and or evil spirits that can be semoned, invoke, worshiped and or temporary created; which means there is an expiration date on their “existance”

How and Why?

Biblical and Post-Biblical Data:

Systematic knowledge concerning demons or evil spirits. Demons (Greek, δαίμονες or δαιμόνια; Hebrew,  [Deut. xxxii. 17; Ps. cvi. 37] and  [Lev. xvii. 7; II Chron. xi. 15; A. V. “devils”; Luther, “Feldgeister” and “Feldteufel”]; Aramaic, or rabbinical,  and  as spirits animating all elements of life and inhabiting all parts of the world, have their place in the primitive belief of all tribes and races. When certain deities rose to be the objects of regular worship and became the rulers of the powers of life, demons, or spirits, were subordinated to them. But inasmuch as they were still feared and occasionally worshiped by the populace, they became the objects of popular superstition. Jewish demonology can at no time be viewed as the outcome of an antecedent Hebrew belief. While the nomadic Hebrews had much in common with the Arabian Bedouins in their belief in spirits

and just for fun some bonus information:

The queen of demons is Lilith, pictured with wings and long flowing hair, and called the “mother of Ahriman” B. B. 73b; ‘Er. 100b; Nid. 24b). “When Adam, doing penance for his sin, separated from Eve for 130 years, he, by impure desire, caused the earth to be filled with demons, or shedim, lilin, and evil spirits” (Gen. R. xx.; ‘Er. 18b), and according to Pseudo-Sirach (“Alphabetum Siracidis,” ed. Steinschneider, p. 23) it was Lilith, as Adam’s concubine, who bore them (compare “Chronicles of Jerahmeel,” ed. Gaster. xxiii. 1). Whether identical with Lilith or not, a more familiar personage, as queen of the demons, is Igarat bat Maḥlat (Num. R. xii.; Pes. 112b), with herchariot and her train of eighteen myriads of demons.

Who or what is lucifer? Is it is a greek / roman concept word? or What is lucifer according to Judaism? :

Septuagint translation of “Helel [read “Helal”] ben Shaḥar” (= “the brilliant one,” “son of the morning”), name of the day, or morning, star, to whose mythical fate that of the King of Babylon is compared in the prophetic vision (Isa. xiv. 12-14). It is obvious that the prophet in attributing to the Babylonian king boastful pride, followed by a fall, borrowed the idea from a popular legend connected with the morning star; and Gunkel (“Schöpfung und Chaos,” pp. 132-134) is undoubtedly correct when he holds that it represents a Babylonian or Hebrew star-myth similar to the Greek legend of Phaethon. The brilliancy of the morning star, which eclipses all other stars, but is not seen during the night, may easily have given rise to a myth such as was told of Ethana and Zu: he was led by his pride to strive for the highest seat among the star-gods on the northern mountain of the gods (comp. Ezek. xxviii. 14; Ps. xlviii. 3 [A.V. 2]), but was hurled down by the supreme ruler of the Babylonian Olympus. Stars were regarded throughout antiquity as living celestial beings (Job xxxviii. 7).

What does christianity of the serpent, satan, and lucifer ?

Early medieval Christianity fairly distinguished between Lucifer and Satan. While Lucifer, as the devil, is fixated in hell, Satan executes the desires of Lucifer as his vassal.

Yet, when we read the text in Hebrew from a Judaism Bible…….. the translation Hebrew have no mention of lucifer.

The word here the is being mis-translated by christianity rome or greek or helenism is

הֵילֵ֣ל

he-y-le-l

very close or similar to Hayyot which means Angel or Spiritual being or הֵילֵל (m.n.) star (occurring only in the phrase הֵילֵל בֶּן־שַׁחַר, Is. 14:12, prob. meaning ‘the morning star’).

So let us take a look at translator google: What is Lucifer in Hebrew?

So where does the confusion that exists in Christianity about Satan, Lucifer, and the Devil? Why is Satan, Lucifer, and the Devil the great tempters and causers of so much trouble pain and death?

As the evidence clearly shows, Lucifer is a creation of the Catholic Church of Rome in 325. The Christianity system incorrectly teaches that Satan and the serpent are the same being; they are not.

I ask this question which makes a lot more sense now….

Why are both Jesus and Satan referred to as the morning star?

Well I have theory and you are able to hear it in this video linked below….

Verse 20: The man called his wife’s name Chavah, [Eve] because she had become the mother of all living.

And Adonoy Elohim made for Adam and his wife leather coats and He clothed them.

Adonoy Elohim said, Behold, the man has become like one of us to know [what is] good and [what is] evil. Now he must be prevented from reaching out his hand and also taking from the Tree of Life and eat [from it] and live forever.

[Therefore] Adonoy Elohim sent him out of the Garden of Eden, to till the soil from which he was taken.

He banished the man [from the Garden] and at the east of the Garden of Eden He stationed the Cherubim and the flame of the rotating sword, to guard the way to the Tree of Life.

Amen and Omayn……..

For those who enjoy reading Apocrypha, below are link to some fun reading in my opinion.

The First Book of Adam and Eve
The Second Book of Adam and Eve

Here is a #clip from the First Book of Adam and Eve…

1 When they were driven out from paradise, they made themselves a booth, and spent seven days mourning and lamenting in great grief.

ii 1 But after seven days, they began to be hungry and started to look for victual to eat, and they

2 found it not. Then Eve said to Adam: ‘My lord, I am hungry. Go, look for (something) for us to eat. Perchance the Lord God will look back and pity us and recall us to the place in which we were before.

iii I And Adam arose and walked seven days over all that land, and found no victual such as they

2 used to have in paradise. And Eve said to Adam: ‘Wilt thou slay me? that I may die, and perchance God the Lord will bring thee into paradise, for on my account hast thou been driven thence.’

3 Adam answered: ‘Forbear, Eve, from such words, that peradventure God bring not some other curse upon us. How is it possible that I should stretch forth my hand against my own flesh? Nay, let us arise and look for something for us to live on, that we fail not.’

iv 1 And they walked about and searched for nine days, and they found none such as they were used to have in paradise, but found only animals’

2 food. And Adam said to Eve: ‘This hath the Lord provided for animals and brutes to eat;

3 but we used to have angels’ food. But it is just and right that we lament before the sight of God who made us. Let us repent with a great penitence: perchance the Lord will be gracious to us and will pity us and give us a share of something for our living.’

v 1 And Eve said to Adam: ‘What is penitence? Tell me, what sort of penitence am I to do? Let us not put too great a labour on ourselves, which we cannot endure, so that the Lord will not hearken to our prayers: and will turn away His countenance from us, because we have not

3 fulfilled what we promised. My lord, how much penitence hast thou thought (to do) for I have brought trouble and anguish upon thee?’

vi 1 And Adam said to Eve: ‘Thou canst not do so much as I, but do only so much as thou hast strength for. For I will spend forty days fasting, but do thou arise and go to the river Tigris and lift up a stone and stand on it in the water up to thy neck in the deep of the river. And let no speech proceed out of thy mouth, since we are unworthy to address the Lord, for our lips are unclean from the unlawful and forbidden tree.

2 And do thou stand in the water of the river thirty-seven days. But I will spend forty days in the water of Jordan, perchance the Lord God will take pity upon us.’

vii 1 And Eve walked to the river Tigris and did

2 as Adam had told her. Likewise, Adam walked to the river Jordan and stood on a stone up to his neck in water.

viii 1 And Adam said: ‘I tell thee, water of Jordan, grieve with me, and assemble to me all swimming (creatures), which are in thee, and let them surround me and mourn in company with me. Not for themselves let them lament, but for me; for it is not they that have sinned, but I.’

3 Forthwith, all living things came and surrounded him, and, from that hour, the water of Jordan stood (still) and its current was stayed.’

ix 1 And eighteen days passed by; then Satan was wroth and transformed himself into the brightness of angels, and went away to the river

2 Tigris to Eve, and found her weeping, and the devil himself pretended to grieve with her, and he began to weep and said to her: ‘Come out of the river and lament no more. Cease now from sorrow and moans. Why art thou anxious

3 and thy husband Adam? The Lord God hath heard your groaning and hath accepted your penitence, and all we angels have entreated on your behalf, and made supplication to the Lord;

4 and he hath sent me to bring you out of the water and give you the nourishment which you had in paradise, and for which you are crying

5 out. Now come out of the water and I will conduct you to the place where your victual hath been made ready.’

x 1 But Eve heard and believed and went out of the water of the river, and her flesh was (trembling)

2 like grass, from the chill of the water. And when she had gone out, she fell on the earth and the devil raised her up and led her to Adam.

3 But when Adam had seen her and the devil with her, he wept and cried aloud and said: ‘O Eve, Eve, where is the labour of thy penitence?

4 How hast thou been again ensnared by our adversary, by whose means we have been estranged from our abode in paradise and spiritual joy?’

xi 1 And when she heard this, Eve understood that (it was) the devil (who) had persuaded her to go out of the river; and she fell on her face on the earth and her sorrow and groaning and wailing

2 was redoubled. And she cried out and said: ‘Woe unto thee, thou devil. Why dost thou attack us for no cause? What hast thou to do with us? What have we done to thee? for thou pursuest us with craft? Or why doth thy malice

3 assail us? Have we taken away thy glory and caused thee to be without honour? Why dost thou harry us, thou enemy (and persecute us) to the death in wickedness and envy?’

xii 1 And with a heavy sigh, the devil spake: ‘O Adam! all my hostility, envy, and sorrow is for thee, since it is for thee that I have been expelled from my glory, which I possessed in the heavens

2 in the midst of the angels and for thee was I cast out in the earth.’ Adam answered, ‘What dost

3 thou tell me? What have I done to thee or what is my fault against thee? Seeing that thou hast received no harm or injury from us, why dost thou pursue us?’

xiii 1 The devil replied, ‘Adam, what dost thou tell me? It is for thy sake that I have been hurled

2 from that place. When thou wast formed. I was hurled out of the presence of God and banished from the company of the angels. When God blew into thee the breath of life and thy face and likeness was made in the image of God, Michael also brought thee and made (us) worship thee in the sight of God; and God the Lord spake: Here is Adam. I have made thee in our image and likeness.’

xiv 1 And Michael went out and called all the angels saying:

‘Worship the image of God as the Lord God hath commanded.’

And Michael himself worshipped first; then he called me and said: ‘Worship the image of God

3 the Lord.’ And I answered, ‘I have no (need) to worship Adam.’ And since Michael kept urging me to worship, I said to him, ‘Why dost thou urge me? I will not worship an inferior and younger being (than I). I am his senior in the Creation, before he was made was I already made. It is his duty to worship me.’

xv 1,2 When the angels, who were under me, heard this, they refused to worship him. And Michael saith, ‘Worship the image of God, but if thou wilt not worship him, the Lord God will be wrath

3 with thee.’ And I said, ‘If He be wrath with me, I will set my seat above the stars of heaven and will be like the Highest.’

xvi 1 And God the Lord was wrath with me and banished me and my angels from our glory; and on

2 thy account were we expelled from our abodes into this world and hurled on the earth. And

3 straightway we were overcome with grief, since we had been spoiled of so great glory. And we

4 were grieved when we saw thee in such joy and luxury. And with guile I cheated thy wife and caused thee to be expelled through her (doing) from thy joy and luxury, as I have been driven out of my glory.

xvii 1 When Adam heard the devil say this, he cried out and wept and spake: ‘O Lord my God, my life is in thy hands. Banish this Adversary far from me, who seeketh to destroy my soul, and give

2,3 me his glory which he himself hath lost.’ And at that moment, the devil vanished before him. But Adam endured in his penance, standing for forty days (on end) in the water of Jordan.

The Priestly Blessing

And  HaShem our G-D spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them:
Yivarechecha Adonai viyishmirecha
Ya’er Adonai panav elecha veechuneka
Yeesa Adonai panav elecha viyasem lecha shalom
“The L-d bless you and keep you;
The L-d make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The L-d lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
“So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”
