The new Trump Account (530A) investment account for children.
To open one for your minor:
- Your child must be under 18, have a Social Security number, and meet the program’s eligibility requirements.
- Create or sign in to your IRS account using ID.me.
- Complete and submit IRS Form 4547 to elect to establish the account for your child.
- Once approved, the account is opened in your child’s name, with you (or another eligible adult) serving as custodian until they turn 18.
For children born January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2028, the federal government provides a $1,000 starter contribution. Older eligible minors can still have an account opened, but they generally do not receive the $1,000 government deposit.
